I am trying to set up layer 5 repo from last 3 days. Firstly I tried in wsl, here when I am running make build command, then after the compliation of production js and css bundle the wsl is shutting down by itself. I though it was some resources problem. Then I shifted to my dual booted Linux setup, here also the same issue is happening while running make build command.
I tried to suspect the issue, Linux is killing the vs code process due to its heavy resource utilization, then I tried to optimize and limit some resources and tried to run, got some progress but again vs code shut in middle of that command.
Can anyone please guide me, how can I successfully run make build command? My machine is of 8gb ram and 512 ssd.
here’s attaching some more context to what exactly i am experiencing:
Environment:
- Dual-booted Ubuntu 24.04
- 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD
What I tried:
- Ran make build on a full clone, after production JS/CSS bundle compilation completes, the system gets suspended.
- Tried optimizing/limiting Node’s resource consumption and increasing the Gatsby thread count, got a bit further, but the issue persisted
- Tried a shallow clone instead of a full clone, same result
- Increased the inotify watch limit (fs.inotify.max_user_watches) from the default (~8192) to around 524288, to rule out ENOSPC: System limit for number of file watchers reached errors on a repo this size
What I’m seeing:
The build process consistently gets suspended right after the production JS and CSS bundle compilation step, regardless of clone type, resource tuning, Node version, or watch limit increases.
What I was trying to do:
Get make build to complete successfully on an 8GB RAM machine.
